Ph.D for Doli Tesia

ITANAGAR, May 15: Doli Tesia has qualified for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy for her thesis “Levels of social and economic development in Arunachal Pradesh: A case study of Tirap District.”

The degree will be conferred on her at the next convocation of the Rajiv Gandhi University.

 

Power supply only during VIP visits

ITANAGAR, May 15: Claiming that Menchukha subdivision has been reeling under darkness over the last several years, All Memba Students’ Union today urged the concerned department for the early restoration of power supply.

Union also claimed that area gets power supply only when some VIPs pay visit to the place. It said that local people have to rely on candle and kerosene.

 

Society appeals for help

BOASIMLA, May 15: The All Arunachal Pradesh Wild Life Society (AAPWLS) today appealed to the GoAP to provide help to the 54 families affected by the recent fire accident here in Lower Subansiri district.

In a representation to the chief minister, the AAPLWS said the families, who are still lodged at the local church, anganwadi office, community hall and school, are  going to face worse situation ahead with the bamboo flowering in the area making it hard for them to find raw materials for constructing houses.

Because of the godown being burned down, the locals are also facing acute ration shortage, it added.

 

Declare the date and venue of AAPSU conference

ITANAGAR, May 15: Guwahati Arunachal Students’ Association appealed to the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) to immediately declare the date and venue of forthcoming AAPSU conference.

Though we are not against our parental organization but we are against the prevailing system as the tenure of present AAPSU executive members has already ended in March last, it said.

Meanwhile, All East Kameng Students’ Union also appealed for immediate declaration of date and venue of forthcoming AAPSU conference.

It further said that AEKSU will not participate in the proposed bandh called by AAPSU on May 18.

 

Cleanliness drive at Aalo

ITANAGAR, May 15: All Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Corruption Activist Association conducted cleanliness drive at Aalo in West Siang on Sunday. The clean drive was carried out at daily Bazar near helipad.

Association further urged the public and shopkeepers to use dustbin properly to keep the town clean.

Further association endorsed the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union proposed bandh on May 18 next.

 

Expert team to visit NIT

ITANAGAR, May 15:  A five-member  team of academicians from different parts of the country including Padmashree awardee and former Vice-Chancellor of Lucknow University, BHU, Prof M S Sodha and Emeritus professor of IIT Delhi, Prof S C Dutta will   arrive in Itanagar on a five days visit to National Institute of Technology, Yupia.

The team members would also deliver expert talks to the students during their visit from May 16 to 20. Other members are Prof Ajit Pal, IIT Kharagpur, Prof P K Basu, former professor of  Calcutta University and  Prof Atul Chowdhuri from Jadavpur University.

 

Child kidnapped

ITANAGAR, May 15: A 20 months child of a restaurant owner has been kidnapped by an employee Tuesday morning.

Capital Complex SP Hibu Tamang informed that 20-month-old Vijaylaxmi Mohapatra, daughter of Basant Mohapatra, who owns Binod restaurant, was allegedly kidnapped by a 27-year-old employee who Mohapatra had engaged only Monday afternoon without verifying his antecedents.  

After registering a case (No 54/12) under U/S 363, IPC, the police led by Nirjuli PS OC Tapa Habung have launched a search operation, but the accused, suspected to be from Bihar, is unknown - even his name is not known. He made good his escape with the girl when the owner, a resident of Balipara in Assam, was busy with the customers.

Any information about the child or the person may be passed on to the SP (Mobile No 09436040006) and the OC (09436052689) for the safe rescue of the innocent child and to bring the culprit to book, the SP added.

ITANAGAR, May 15: Fifteen members and four officials of Arunachal Karate-Do Association are leaving for New Delhi today to participate in the 24th junior and cadet national karate-do championship and selection test for 12th Asia Karate Championship to be held at Talkotra Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from May 18-19. The team is led by AKA Secretary Sensei Bulang L Marik along with other three officials Rakam Dugi, Debia Ona and Rajnita Rotom.

BILAT, May 15: With the rest of the state, Etor Gidii, the agriculture related festival of Adi community was celebrated in different parts of East Siang today with traditional fervor.

Art & Culture, Food and Civil Supply Minister Kamlung Mossang, along with the local MLA Tangor Tapak and a host of government officials participated at the Etor festival at Bilat Bamin village today.

Mossang exhorted the youth to shun destructive activities, which has bad affect on the societies. He said youths could lead the society with their innovative ideas and action.

Regretting the growing gun culture, drug addiction which are deep-rooted in some sections of the societies, which is hindering the development of the state, Mossang suggested the parents to guide their growing children at the right way. “Poor economic condition pushes the youths to adopt detrimental practices. Evil intention of the desperate youths should be rectified by enhancing their economic gain from alternative sources like agriculture and horticulture”, Mossang said.

He laid stress on work cultures for economic upliftment of the societies. He further called upon the youths to shoulder responsibility to preserve the age-old traditional cultures for the next generations.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the villagers demanding fund for construction of a multipurpose community hall at Bilat Bamin village, the minister assured to grant sanction.

He also inaugurated the renovated building of Bilat Bamin Community Hall.

Addressing the people, local MLA Tangor Tapak said he was all set to develop link surface communication in the area. He is optimistic that the state government will grant adequate fund during 12th- five year- plan for all round development of the area.

All India Rajiv Gandhi Bichar Moncha president Mangol Yomso, in his address requested the youths to take active part in the developmental process as strength of the country  depends on their activities.

The 1st ever Lutor Festival was celebrated with great festive flavor at Mer village under Mebo Sub-Division today. Governor’s ‘Team Arunachal’ Badges and Letter of Appreciation for the rescuing team of Deer Cub during last Unying Aaran Festival were handed over to Yung Tayeng (ASM Borguli), Horinath Tayeng, Kumar Regon and Odan Tayeng to mark the day.

Deer cub rescuing team led by Yung Tayeng, thanked the Governor for recognising for their little effort of rescuing an animal. This recognition will encourage others as well to quit hunting and love nature and animals, added the team.

Emphasizing on the continuation of such traditional celebration and preserving the cultural identity, legislator Ralom Borang, ADC Mebo Oti Dai and others suggested the people of Mer which borders with Assam not to sell their lands to the people of the Assam.

DFO (W/L) Tashi Mize, while encouraging the people to preserve traditions and cultures, suggested this fringe village of D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary to come forward in protecting rich flora & fauna of the Sanctuary which once completely revived and developed will be an Eco-Tourism hotspot.

 

 

Shania Kayem Mize tops State Civil Service exams

ITANAGAR, May 15: Shania Kayem Mize has topped this year’s Combined Competitive Examination of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). Altogether 26 made it to the coveted state service exams.  The others who made it to top ten are: Ngikya Gohain (CDPO, general category), Techi Henyir (APPS), Minjom Ete (APPS), Tsering Pentsom Monpa (APCS) Aniyang Ratan (APPS) Obi Siram (APCS), Mino Tayeng (F and AO), Dusu Kaling (APPS), Nima Phunstok (F& AO).  Setting another milestone, APPSC conducted the personality test today and declared the results few hours later.

Shania did her schooling from Daying Ering Memorial School, Pasighat and later got a B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering from NERIST. Presently working as a Assistant Inspector Tax and Excise in Naharlagun, she credits her success to determination and hard work.

“My parents and teachers always believed in me and I was determined too. ”, she said while talking to this daily.

“I managed time well.

After office hours, I devoted time to study. And my serious at the department were quite helpful too” Shania said.

Daughter of Gebi Pertin Mize and Taling Mize, this was Shania’s second attempt.

For Techi Henyir, her selection was a childhood dream come true. Perhaps the first in the state, Henyir ranked third and has been allotted Arunachal Pradesh Police Service. She says she always wanted to be a Police officer.  I want to reach out to the women and want to help them face their grievances, says Henyir.

 A product of Boum Kakir Mission School Midpu, she is gold medallist in Geography from Rajiv Gandhi University. She is also qualified to teach in Colleges and universities as she cleared NET.

She credits determination, hard work and consistency for her success.

 

 

Hotels raided as dept. initiates action to plug LPG crisis

ITANAGAR, May 15: Plagued by acute shortage, the Department of Food & Civil Supplies today acted tough against the domestic LPG cylinder black marketeers.  

The department today seized three trucks of domestic LPG cylinders as it carried out checkings at several restaurants, hotels of Capital Complex.  

DFCSO Amit Bengia informed that such raids would be conducted at regular intervals henceforth and no black marketeers would be spared. A strict rationing of the LPG distribution would be followed henceforth.

He appealed to all the owners of hotels, restaurants, eateries, butchers to avail commercial LPG cylinders for their commercial activities which are non-subsidized.

DFCSO quoting IOC sources said that the present crisis is likely to subside in a month or two. Against a required 98 trucks, only 40 trucks were made available to four agencies in the capital region resulting in shortfall of 58 trucks as on May 15.

He further informed that present LPG crisis is due to insufficient feeding of LPG bullet tankers from Numali Garh & Lakhwa to IOC bottling Plant located at Kimin;  shortage of packed LPG trucks and difficulty in setting up of bigger capacity LPG plant. The other obvious reason being illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders in the commercial activities.

The raid was carried out in collaboration with Papum Pare District Administration.

Three teams of Food & Civil Supplies department Officers and Police personnel comprising of DFCSO Amit Bengia, SDFCSOs Joram Sanku, N.K. Hina, Nabam Anand and Biri Kago carried out surprise checking at several restaurants, hotels etc. of Capital Complex starting from Nirjuli to Chimpu village.

 

 

Narottam, a Nocte saint

ITANAGAR, May 15: Sasoni, a little non-descript sleepy village in Upper Assam about 16 KM from Naharkatia is a place of religious pilgrimage for the Noctes of Tirap district. Sasoni, situated on the bank of Buri Dihing River is a holy place that houses Sri Sri Merbil Chaliha Bare Ghar Satra of the famous Vaishnavite sect. There are about 537 Satras scattered all over Assam. However, the unique feature of Bare Ghar Satra is that it has influence and followers from among the Noctes, Mishings, Ahom Kacharis, Chutias, Baganias etc that we don’t find in other Satras. In fact, the Bare Ghar Satra has the maximum followers in Assam. Some of the prominent Satras under the Bare Ghar are: Sessa, Naomati,and Modakhat. The Bare Ghar Satra in Sasoni had once great influence over the Noctes of Tirap district. The 17th century was the chaotic time of migration of the Noctes from different directions and places, mainly from Myanmar. Feuds among the newly settled villages over land, rivers etc were common then. During those chaotic times a pious and highly intellectual soul in Lotha Khunbao was born in the Chief’s family of Namsang village. Those days Chiefs of Namsang and Borduria who were brothers were living together at Namsang village. Lotha Khunbao was a religious person and was interested in peace and spiritual matters. He was not satisfied with the crude forms of worship and rituals performed by the Noctes those days.

One night Lotha Khunbao dreamt of his Guru in Assam. He was asked by his Guru to visit him. In the morning he told his council members about his dream. Then Lotha Khunbao accompanied by many of his soldiers started to take a journey towards Assam in search of his Guru.  He prepared two bamboo tubes, one filled with silver coins and another with gold coins. He also put letters in both the bamboo tubes. Lotha Khunbao then floated the two bamboo tubes in the Chatjo River, not very far from present Namsang village and followed the  bamboo tubes. At a point in the Chatjo River near present Deomali the two bamboo tubes swirled for a long time before finally floating down to the Buri Dihing River. In the past Deomali was called Bah-Ghuri [where the bamboo swirls.] Probably after this incident the place was called Bah-Ghuri. When the two bamboo tubes reached Merbil Ghat near which the Bare Ghar Satra is situated, a devotee of Sri Ram [the Gukhai of the Bare Ghar Satra] who was bathing in the river saw the bamboo tubes and wanted to catch them. As he approached towards the two bamboo tubes and tried to catch them, they drifted away. He tried several times to catch them but the bamboo tubes kept drifting away. Surprised by the strange bamboo tubes, he ran to his Guru Sri Ram and told him about it. Then Sri Ram went down to the river, offered some rituals and caught the two bamboo tubes. All this while, Lotha Khunbao was watching from the other bank of the Buri Dihing River. He was told in his dream that whoever would catch the two bamboo tubes would be his Guru.

So, Lotha Khunbao approached Sri Ram and told him about his dream and about his willingness to become his disciple. He told Sri Ram that he saw him in his dream and came from his village fasting all the way. But Sri Ram was little apprehensive seeing the large armed Nocte warriors he was accompanied by. In order to test Lotha Khunbao’s faith and sincerity, Sri Ram organized a huge cultural night at the Satra called Kalidamon Bhavna in which he danced in torn clothes along with hundreds of other dancers to confuse Lotha Khunbao. But to the great surprise of Sri Ram, Lotha Khunbao could easily recognize his Guru. From that day onwards, Sri Ram accepted Lotha Khunbao as his disciple and they started staying together in the Satra for many years. Sri Ram taught Lotha Khunbao all about Vaishnavism. In the course of his preaching, Sri Ram was so impressed by intelligence, spiritual knowledge and dedication of his disciple Lotha Khunbao that he named him as Narottom  which means supreme among men or a man of higher virtue. After many years of spiritual training under his Guru, Narottam returned to Namsang village to preach the teachings of his Guru. But he did not stay for long in his village. After distributing all the properties amongst his brothers and on hearing about his Guru’s ill health, Narottam returned to the Satra in Sasoni. But before his leaving he told the villagers that the time was not far for his Guru to leave his body and he also desired to die with him. He also told them to respect his Guru and visit the Satra in Sasoni atleast once a year, saying that if they followed the Guru’s preaching, no harm would befall them. All the villagers instantly accepted Narottam as their saviour. But Narottam did not live long after his return to the Satra. He died at Barihat Satra. Incidentally, his Guru Sri Ram also died on the same day in the month of October,1700. The bodies of both Sri Ram and Narottam were cremated together at Kenduguri Bali Satra. Their memorials are still there in the Sasoni Satra which are laid side by side.

After Narottam’s death Namghars were established in almost all the Nocte villages. Gunin Mahanta Gukhai, Jagat Prabhu Gukhai, Rebat Mahanta Gukhai regularly visited the Namghars in the Nocte villages and conducted pujas there. Though all the Noctes were not Vaishnavites per se the Satras had a great influence on them. They used to revere the Gukhais as messengers of God.  Some Noctes also went to Nazira Satra to study Vaishnavism.  In fact, through the Satras, Bharat Seva Mission was established one at Borduria and another at Namsang village in which weaving, training on healthcare etc were taught. So, the Noctes had always been peace-loving from the beginning. They have been wrongly branded as head-hunters. In fact, to call the Noctes as head-hunters is a misnomer.  When asked why and how the great institution of the Satras disintegrated, Wangpha Lowang, Ex-Minister and an authority on Nocte traditional systems, said that  indiscipline among the Gukhais,  misuse of the money collected from the villagers and lack of welfare schemes initiated by the Satras made the institution unpopular. By late 70s Christianity came in and the Namghars were hardly used. Wangkap Lowang Rajkumar, Ex-PA who is now a born again Christian was also once a great propagator of Vaishnavism. There is nothing wrong. Today 90 percent of Noctes had professed Chistianity and we can find a great change in the society. Religion is a personal matter. As long as it spreads peace, any religion must be respected. But having said that a great spiritual soul like the Narottam must be remembered by us. There are many institutions named after him like Narottam Nagar where the famous Ramakrishna Mission School is situated, Narottam Udyog, Narottam club etc. A road or an institution in the state capital Itanagar may be named after this great son and spiritual leader of Tirap. The up-coming research scholars must bring more information on the life and teachings of Narottam. His teachings may no longer be relevant in today’s  ambiance but atleast for the sake of history Narottam’s name should be inscribed in golden letters.

 

 

AAPSU accuses govt of hoodwinking citizens, questions use of force to conduct HEP hearings

ITANAGAR, May 15: Hardening its stand, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) while reacting to government statement on financial position of the state, alleged the govt of hoodwinking the people of the state. It accused the govt of resorting to media statements and hiding the facts as ‘it is evident that they have not come out with any white paper on the financial condition of the state’.  

That are the explanations for the April 3 order to all the Treasuries, HoDs and DDOs, it asked as it said that this kind of order has been issued for the first time in the state and shows the weak government financial condition.

The statement coming from former AAPSU president Nabam Rebia who is the present government spokesperson  is surprising, said Takam Tatung the president of the apex student Union.

How can the state government explain the non-payment of bills of the Group C and D contractors? The non-payment of their hard earned money actually affects the majority of the poor students who are dependent on them, he said.

AAPSU further said that the May 18 state wide-bandh call will go ahead. Press, police, magistrates on duty, emergency health services and milk-vans will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.

It further said that State government should not forget that 99.9 percent of the legislators and leaders of the state are former AAPSU leaders who should have understood the sentiments of AAPSU. They further called on the  legislators to advice for better governance in the state.

AAPSU would like to remind the state government that the APCOCA like movement should not be repeated, read the statement.    

Meanwhile, the AAPSU called upon the state government not to aggravate law and order problem in the state by using massive police and para-military forces for conducting public hearing for hydro power projects against people’s sentiments.

In a meeting between  All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union and Adi Students Union, the state government’s tactic of using of police and creating fear psychosis among the local people and people opposing the hydro-projects for conduct of public hearing was vehemently criticised. Why are police cases  registered against those people opposing the project when they have a democratic right to it, asked the Union.    

AAPSU stated that the public hearing for 2700MW Lower Siang Hydro Electric Project which was postponed later and the recent 1000MW Naying HEP witnessed deployment of large numbers of police and para-military forces, which is highly condemnable when the AAPSU has been calling for containing the law and order problem in the state and calling bandh against it.

The deployment of forces only creates law and order problems. When the local people are against and opposing the Lower Siang HEP, the state government instead of addressing the issue has only deployed police forces, it said. AAPSU would be meeting and visiting the affected people of the Lower Siang Hydro Electric Project soon after the bandh.

 

 

Itanagar ready to welcome European Ambassadors

ITANAGAR, May 15: In wake of confirmed report of the visit of eight Ambassadors of European countries to the state, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today expressed optimism that it would establish relationships with some of the most developed countries of the world and pave way for investments and joint ventures subsequently.

“This may be a new opening in the future of our state,” he said interacting with state government officials while finalizing the all-important 4-day visit of the VVIPs.

The eight Ambassadors are scheduled to arrive at Itanagar on May 16 evening by road from Dimapur. The visiting dignitaries are: Borislav Kirilov Kostov of Bulgaria, Miloslav Stasek of Czech Republic, Terhi Hakala of Finland, Dr Janos Terenyi of Hungary, Piotr Klodkowski of Poland, Marian Tomasik of Slovak Republic, Cord Mier-Klodt of Germany and Joao Cravinho of European Union, who will be heading the delegation.

The visitors are scheduled to interact with Rajiv Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor, academic staff and students on May 17.  On the same day they would meet the State Legislative Assembly Speaker and leaders of various political parties. Later on the evening they would give a courtesy call on the Governor at Raj Bhavan.

Next day, the dignitaries are scheduled to visit the picturesque Ziro and stay overnight. On May 19, they would call on the Chief Minister besides attending other programmes at Itanagar. They would leave early the next day for Guwahati.

The state government has made elaborate plans and arrangements for the significant visit with an aim to project Arunachal in its indigenous and traditional grandeur. The Chief Minister is personally monitoring and taking stock of the preparations.

 

 

Bridge on Orang-Kalakatang - Shergaon - Rupa - Tenga road inaugurated

ITANAGAR, May 15: Dimachang bridge across Dimachang Nallah on Road Orang-Kalakatang - Shergaon - Rupa - Tenga (OKSRT) at   KM 25.66 was inaugurated by  Lt Gen Shakti Gurung,  GOC Gajraj Corps today.

The 158 Km long  OKSRT  road is being developed to National Highway Double Lane (NHDL) specifications. The stretch from Orang to Shikaridanga (31.7 Km) is in the state of Assam.To ensure all weather connectivity, Dimachang bridge, a permanent bridge of span 120 Mtr, was constructed over Dimachang Nallah at KM 25.66 on OKSRT in Mazbat Tehsil at a cost of Rs. 501 Lacs. Presently a 80 mtr one way steel girder bridge with concrete decking of lower classification is existing and had to be replaced to meet NHDL specifications of bridges and also to cater for the future road communication requirements.

Project Vartak the oldest project of the Border Roads Organisation, has been entrusted with the responsibility of creating road infrastructure to cater to the requirements of Army, CPO and State Govt in the Dists of West Kameng and Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh.

Road OKSRT will provide higher specification connectivity to the hinter land of West Kameng district approaching from Guwahati with the dual purpose of bolstering socio-economic growth of the area and enhancing operational preparedness of the Army said   Lt Gen Shakti Gurung, GOC Gajraj Corps, he also appreciated the untiring efforts of Project Vartak in meeting various challenges of road development in Arunachal Pradesh.

Brig. Rohit Kapoor, Chief Engineer Vartak brought out that to speed up the road construction activity and to enhance road building capacity private initiatives are being encouraged. Concerted efforts are being put to motivate established infrastructure development firms to participate in the road construction activities in the region.

 

 

Complaint against alleged misuse of  fund

ITANAGAR, May 15:  The people of Salang, Nabalang and Wabalang villages under Lada circle in East Kameng district have demanded high-level enquiry into the alleged misuse of Central fund  sanctioned for  implementation of IWDP programme under Hariya guidelines.

Former ZPM, Wangdu Miji, GPM Naga Miji, a public Dev Sangchoju of Wabalang village   in a complaint letter to Chief Minister alleged that  the schemes under IWDP schemes  were not been implemented.  Lakhs of rupees sanctioned under Seppa DRDA for implementation of IWDP schemes were siphoned off by preparing false  bills and scheme completion reports, they said in its complaint letter.

The letter further said that despite written complaint submitted to both chief secretary and rural development secretary on April 20 last, no action was taken against erring officers for alleged misuse of fund without implementing the scheme in ground level.

The leaders trio  demanded  suspension of all the officers involved in preparation of false bills  and false work completion report and action against them under appropriate section of law.

 

 

Faculty development programe

ITANAGAR, May 15: The inaugural function of the 5 days Faculty Development Program on “Emerging Research Areas in Electronics and Communication Engineering” was held at the Seminar Hall of the Department of ECE, NERIST. The program was organised by the department of ECE with financial support, under Technical Education Quality Development Program of the Government of India.

Speaking on the occasion, HOD (ECE) Dr. Rupaban Subadar highlighted the aim of TEQIP program. He also stated that this kind of program aims at improving the quality of Technical Education across the country.

He also requested to give feedback of the program, so that similar programs can be arranged in a better way in future.

Dean Academic Prof. R. M. Pant, elaborated on the impact of technology on our day to day lives. He also highlights the significance of such program when the technology is growing at an exponential rate.

Dr. Sarsing Gao, emphasized on the need of multi disciplinary research works. He also opined that such teaching learning process is beneficial for both the participants as well as the experts.

The coordinator of the program, R. K. Mangang, informed that experts from Tezpur University and Rajiv Gandhi University, other than internal experts are going to share their research areas and challenges in the coming 5 days. Faculty from Rajiv Gandhi Polytechnic, Itanagar are participating the program.

The people of Upper Subansiri are still deprived of many basic facilities like communication, transportation and proper supply of electricity. Despite   many programmes / schemes like RGGVY  are being implemented in remote areas of the state, many villages under the Sigin-II block of Upper Subansiri are still deprived of electricity. Therefore, I, on behalf of  All Nyishi Youth Association, Upper  Subansiri district unit and  on behalf of the people of the appeal to the Chief Minister to kindly direct the respective department to take immediate necessary steps to provide electricity to the villages under Sigin –II block.

On the other hand, the people of the Upper Subansiri district remain cut off from rest of the world for a long time due to frequent BSNL, Daporijo network failure. This is mainly due to  constant road cutting or landslide which resulted in disruption of optical fiber network connecting Daporijo BSNL station. This problem can be addressed with the help of sophisticated modern technology. In this regard, the BSNL authorities have already initiated steps for acquiring land for setting up the Microwave tower at Gigi village.  

We request the BSNL authorities to set up a tower at Hankar village which will cover whole Sigin-II Block of Upper Subansiri district.

Another problem that is facing by the people living along the Daporijo-Ziro highway  is  limited transportation facilities. The only mode of transportation in this route is Tata Sumo vehicles, which are plying between Itanagar and Daporijo. The Tata Sumo service with exorbitant fare is not a proper mode of  travelling for poor passengers.

As the state transport service is meant to serve the poor common mass of the state, a regular daily bus service along this route will be very helpful for poor people of the area. Therefore, we request the  APST general manager to re-start the transport service along the Daporijo – Ziro highway.

Discontinuation of service and plight of service holders

Dear Editor,

I have completed my graduation (BA) in 2005. Thereafter, I have completed many courses and posses certificates as stenographer, computer operator cum Program Assistant (COPA) and also completed diploma courses in Computer Application (DCA) and Elementary Education during 2006 to 2011 from Govt recognized institutes. I did whatever possible as a student from a economically backward family. Even then, I could not get any government job to sustain my family.

I had faced many interviews. Some time I passed in written test, but failed in viva voce.

I got a contract basis service as Branch Post Master (BPM) in Dumporijo branch post office in 2006 with salary of Rs. 3500 only per month. I performed my duty as BPM till 31st March 2011.

Then I got another contractual service under Saakshar Bharat Mission- 2011 as Block Coordinator against Dumporijo CD Block for a period of one year from March 31,2011.

I left the previous service with a hope that I could sustain my family better with this new service. Here, I was paid only five months’ honorarium at the rate of Rs 6000 per month (May to September, 2011). Thereafter, no honorarium at all, though we were waiting for honorarium months after months to sustain my family. And to my utter surprise, instead of honorarium, I got a letter regarding discontinuation of my service. In the meantime, I had lost two service offers as I was continuing my service as coordinator. Now,   how could I pay my house rent, make payment for grocery shop dues, repay loans to others ?

I would like to question both state and central Govts, why did they launch such programme if they could not continue it.

Now many  families are facing innumerable problems due to discontinuation of  the programme.

Upper Subansiri district authority had appointed 296 Prerak as village coordinators and 9 block coordinators against different panchayat segments in the district under the programme. Where will they go now to run their families after discontinuation of the programme? The appointees in other district under this programme may also face similar situation.

Therefore, I on behalf of the poor citizens of the state, would like to request the like-minded people to come together to fight against such discrimination/ illegal activities which are prevailing in our society. Some persons got service without facing interviews and their services also got regularized, here we were appointed through proper recruitment procedures but asked to discontinue service. We are waiting for our service to be continued and for payment of pending honorarium to run the families.

Raise boundary issue in Assembly/Parliament

Dear Editor,

How long do we tolerate? How long we maintain the status quo of 1979 which was issued by Supreme Court of India  after informal discussion between the then  two Chief Ministers of Arunachal and Assam. If Assam can do anything without fear, why cannot us?

Where are our elected leaders including MPs who had promised during the time of election to resolve boundary issue?

The representatives have every right to raise the question regarding Assam-Arunachal boundary dispute in Parliament and legislative Assembly.  We also want our representatives to highlight the grievances of people of the state in highest platforms like Assembly and Parliament like our former leader Dr Daying Ering.

The strong protest and objection were raised in the Parliament only by Late Dr. Daying Ering on May 5, 1961 and followed by another one Visal Nath Panday on April 25, 1969. Why our today's leaders so silent? Why don’t they raise this kind of issue in the Parliament?  Are these leaders still sleeping?

Everybody knows Assam-Arunachal boundary dispute is created by Gopinath Bordoloi committee vide notification No.TAD/R/35/50/109 dated 23rd February 1951 when tribal people of Arunachal were totally innocent and had no idea about politics of document and lobbying.

Now time has come, people should unite and raise voice against their own leaders. It is time to realize the consequence of choosing wrong leaders. People residing in border area are always victimized by our neighbouring state, but our leaders are deliberately not trying to take any action or make comments.  

Incident happened with one Mime Riba of Likabali in West Siang district on May 11 was not a new thing.

Such incidents happen daily along Arunachal-Assam boundary area just like cat and mouse game.

The boundary area people are always suppressed by neighboring state, especially Assam but our government always keeps mum. Why the public representatives including MLAs, Ministers and MP and administration and  police and forest departments don't take any action against illegal eviction? Nothing is impossible in this world, if they  take interest.

I, on behalf of All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students Union (AAPBSU) personally appeal all the MLAs, Ministers and MPs to raise the boundary issue in Assembly and Parliament or try to compel to central Govt to intervene to bring in a permanent solution to the Assam-Arunachal boundary dispute.

Even as economic uncertainties loom over the world over, Asia and Pacific will remain an island of stability, according to the United Nations Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2012 (ESCAP). However, the region will continue to be buffeted by headwinds ranging from stormy commodity prices and receding demand for its exports, slowing its growth to 6.5 per cent from the 7.0 per cent it achieved last year. As a consolation, the retreat would cool inflation to 4.8 per cent from 6.1 per cent.

Though reduced demand from the debt-afflicted West would slow growth, the Asia-Pacific will remain the world’s fastest growing region with China and India set to grow at 8.6 and 7.5 per cent respectively in 2012.

Among the key policy challenges and options facing Asia-Pacific countries are balancing growth and inflation, deploying measures beyond monetary policy to fight inflation; coping with capital flows and exchange rate volatility and curbing unemployment by stoking domestic consumption to act as an engine of growth.

These nations must work towards improving working conditions, achieving income parity, and making growth inclusive.

The good news is that, according to experts, most countries are favorably poised to initiate a range of actions to stimulate and rebalance growth.
